TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Wordpress (www.wordpress.org) has two options. You can use their blogging
service, which has a user interface on their site to compose and publish
your blog. You can also download their free software for hosting your own
blog on any third-party hosting site. I've found that the templates can be
tweaked easily enough to incorporate static pages and blog pages into one
site. Rather, I've seen others do that. I will attempt to also do that soon.
Windows Live Writer (http://www.windowslive.com/default.html) is a software
that's on my personal computer, and I open it much like I would Word or any
other authoring tool to write my content. It has an intuitive interface (in
my opinion) and when I'm done crafting my excellent prose (kidding), I
simply click Publish. In short order (depending on Internet connection
speed), my post is published to my blog and visible to all.
Essentially, I use the two together.
