Just a quick follow-up, after someone queried me off-list: Word has all
sorts of mischievous automations that I disable.
For each style, I always clear the Automatically Update check box in the
Modify Style dialog box.
Globally, I always clear the Tools => Templates and Add-ins =>
Automatically Update Document Styles check box.
I also always clear the Tools => Options => Edit => Keep Track of
Formatting check box.
Outside of styles and templates, there are also mischievous automations
for saving backup copies, fast saves, background saves...
