>> I did say the magic words: "it's time to terminate this contractor
and get a
replacement". My boss wants to be cautious and wants to make sure that I
will not be left with all the load so he wants to hire and then we will
slowly cut him off or keep him on staff for occasional jobs.
Woah. Sounds like the problem is company-wide... no one knows what to
really expect from a good contractor. Any good contractor should
realize what the job is and what is expected, and work according to the
terms you set. Period. The problem seems to be the contractor is not a
good fit for this position. The person is not delivering what is asked
for, he's delivering what he wants to deliver.
If you hire a company to paint your living room a sunny lime green
color, and come home to find that they've painted it a dark forest
green, are you going to send them packing or on to the next room to
paint while you re-do the living room? It should be the same with a
contractor.
Time to have another try with the bosses and explain that you appreciate
their concerns of you being overloaded, but it's actually the same
amount or work or more to be in this situation, and a proper contractor
replacement would get you to where you wanted to be and out of this
mess. This person ain't going to do anything but give you more grief
and work to do. If the bosses still don't want to take moves to control
the situation, it's time to dust of the resume and start looking for
something better.
