It all depends on your circumstances. For instance, will the file be
published on the web or an intranet? Are you planning to include
hyperlinks between documents? If either of these cases is true,
avoiding spaces is a good idea (both for files and the containing
folders)
Are you planning to drop the file into a help authoring tool? If so,
does it have any restrictions as to filenames? Act accordingly.
Apart from these sorts of practical considerations, a file naming
convention is largely arbitrary. Choose one that you find sensible and
easy to use, and apply it consistently. Consistent use is actually far
more important than the finer details of the system you choose.
