Subject:Death knell for quality content? From:stevefjong -at- comcast -dot- net To:techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com Date:Wed, 26 Mar 2008 15:18:04 +0000
John, I think--and I'd like to think!--that the publisher is looking for high volumes of content, not high-quality content. For the same reasons of timeliness and immediacy, a TVstation would prefer a cellphone-camera video of a breaking event over a documentary on the same subject a month later.
A fictional anecdote comes to mind. In the movie "Superman," Lois Lane wanted to know why Perry White assigned Clark Kent to the big story instead of her, the better, more experienced reporter. Perry replied: "Lois, Clark Kent may seem like just a mild-mannered reporter, but listen, not only does he know how to treat his editor-in-chief with the proper respect, not only does he have a snappy, punchy prose style, but he is, in my forty years in this business, the fastest typist I've ever seen."
