TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
You'll also get things like the chapter newsletter, Intercom, and
access to the STC SIG of your choice (not TechWhirl, which is a thing
until itself and not an STC construct), which can be very
helpful. (I can phone and give you info on which one you might like,
if you wish.) You get to vote, too, which can be fun. Yes, there
are elections that have come out to the point where a single vote mattered.
Even if you don't attend conferences or workshops now, you may in the
future, and there is a break for members even at the local Puget
Sound meetings, I believe. And it's just generally cool: looks good
on a resume to employers, that sorta thing. I've gotten hundreds of
thousands of dollars out of being a member through contacts, through
information in newsletters, and the like.
Yours truly,
John Hedtke
