TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
If you belong to an active chapter, then that's a benefit also. I'm a
member of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, and it's fantastic. It's an active
chapter. We have speakers each month, networking meetings, our own
newsletter, and an RMC mailing list. Within months of moving to CO from
the East Coast I had a wonderful group of local contacts. The community is
another reason to join STC.
You may also find that one of the many webinars is worth your personal
investment. I recently participated in a Captivate webinar that was
fantastic. The STC rate was reasonable, and I have expanded my skills,
which is great for my current position and for a potential future position.
