The current supervisor is going to block the move? That happened to me once,
and I ended up leaving the company all together.
Has Mr. Supervisor offered you a >permanent< position? Holy cow, batman,
anyone can understand needing "benefits" -- and contract positions don't get
those normally.
Maybe you could just say "I need benefits for (me, my family, whatever)."
"I've enjoyed this, but I need a permanent job." The only danger with that
is that the current manager may offer you a "real job" that has those
things.
I'm with Bill Swallow. Go talk to HR. They have a stake in getting
qualified, *permanent* employees on board to work for the company.
In the meantime, look for another job :-) someplace else.
