Maybe we shouldn't label the Technical Communicators' chosen title
"stuffy and pretentious."
That way, those of us who are Technical Writers won't have our own title
similarly put down.
And here's a research paper suggestion for you academicians: Are there
more Technical Writers than Technical Communicators on the TECHWR-L
list, and vice versa for the TechCommPros list?
