I don't see any issues with this plan.
These emails are archived on techwr-l.com, so they are kinda out there
already. I like the idea of having the comments distilled down into a list.
Perhaps you can put together the anecdotes with proper credits and post it
to the list. The info has already been posted, so you won't get in any
copyright trouble for quoting the list back to the list. Anybody who
doesn't want their comment and name re-circulated outside of the list can
let you know privately and you can change the compilation, then you will
have a draft that can be shared.
Old School discussions have come up before. Perhaps you can check the
archives for some of the other discussions to get more anecdotes.
