That's exactly what I was trying to say - that, each officer is also a
private citizen. So, comment all you wish...without using your Society
and chapter affiliation. The way that the email read to me was even if
you don't use your Society chapter and affiliation, you can't talk,
which I just don't think that STC has a legal leg to stand on to make
such a request.

Tammy,
I'm not a lawyer and I'm no longer a chapter officer. I think that the
Society has a right to demand that officers of the organization follow
decisions made by the organization. So, the Society can demand that
chapter officers refrain from commenting on or giving the names and
contact information of other officers as potential interviewees in this
or other circumstances.
However, the Society cannot demand that Don White, private citizen who
happens to be a technical writer, follow the policy they promulgate for
officers.
And, each officer is also a private citizen. So, comment all you
wish...without using your Society and chapter affiliation.
Sincerely,
Donald H. White
