TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Just as a follow up, I received a response from Tom Gorski, the STC
Director of Communication & Marketing. While he acknowledges that media
inquiries in such a circumstance normally offer a great opportunity for
an organization to spread its message "the simple truth is we are not
(yet) ready to initiate that conversation. STC is still developing th
messages for the Telling Our Powerful Story campaign and is not ready to
be presenting public statements on such a divisive topic." He said it
would be unwise for STC to comment or be involved.
My reply was that this should be communicated to the members, lest we
think the STC is just standing around shrugging with its hands in its
pockets.
