You don't pay your doctor for his time, you pay for
his services, and for the services of those who
support him.
As a professional employee, you are not paid for
your time, but for your knowledge and your ability
to accomplish objectives. While it is true that most
companies base their headcount on the number of
people they expect will be needed to accomplish
company objectives within "typical work days," any
company that is actually *requiring* you to work X
hours of overtime and would not be just as happy
if you creatively applied the knowledge and abilities
they are paying you for to figure out how to accomplish
your objectives without working any extra hours is
not employing you as a professional and should be
paying you overtime.
