TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At the moment I'm a 1099 contractor getting paid by the hour. I've heard
rumors of bonuses, of course, but at no time in my career did a company I
worked for as a full time employee ever issue one to me or my colleagues. I
did get several Xmas turkeys, and some stock options that were never worth
the paper they were printed on. Oh and a plaque for performance excellence a
month or 2 before I was "downsized".
