And clearly they're not, so something in the definition of "technical
communicator" needs to change -- and that may not necessarily be the
part to do with "knowlege product".

If you're ultimately interested in a definition of "technical
communicator", how about we start with Wikipedia's definition of
"technical communication"?

"the process of conveying usable information through writing or speech
about a specific domain to an intended audience."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technical_communication

>From this I suggest that a technical communicator is "someone engaged
in the design, production, and delivery of usable information about a
specific domain to an intended audience".

The "design, production, and delivery" part is perhaps a bit tricky,
though -- should it be "and/or"? Also, this definition leaves open the
possibility that someone with some other job title may, at some
moments, be a technical communicator, and that may be a problem for
some people.
