AFAICT most advice tells you to avoid the troublesome features. To be
honest, I can work reasonably safely with 500 page plus Word
documents. However, I use INCLUDETEXT fields rather than "master
documents", SEQ fields rather than automatic paragraph numbering, etc.
As I wrote earlier, you have to know the gotchas and take steps to
mitigate them.
