Give Quadralay's Webworks Publisher a look (www.webworks.com). It will
let you edit and create in Word and give you single-sourcing capability.
Cheers,

I would like to find a way to single-source documents in Word without
using master documents.
Here is my situation:
The company I am working for has four chapters that are shared between
many different user guides. Understandably, they do not want to go to
every user guide to make changes when one of these common chapters needs
to be updated.
The tech writer before me used master documents and I was trying to use
it as well. But one can only slam their heads against the wall for so
long, so I decided to abandon that approach.
My co-worker and I are trying out a PDF solution, but that too is
running into some difficulties (I will ask some questions about that one
in another email).
What do you use to single-source documents in Word without falling back
on master documents?
