You will find that most tools have idiosyncrasies in how they deal
with your needs. Word isn't the best tool to be using for your
workflow and needs. There are work-arounds which people have been
telling you about, but all of them will have varying degrees of
success, because Word isnt' really designed to function in a high
intensity situation like you describe. Your real solution is to use a
better tool than MS Word.
