TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I do not know of any links but there are some excellent books out there.
However, since you were asking for advice, you might want to be aware of
a few other considerations. (I looked up Wavetec on the net and noted a
Dubai location.)Having worked in a non-English environment for 25 years,
there will be other considerations that you will have to research. A
huge one is the compatibility of Arabic to online help tools that you
will use (if Arabic is required). Not all help tools support working in
Arabic. However, if you will be working in English, you will be OK.
You will also need to take into consideration other language issues.
Critical ones could be Japanese or Chinese.
All of this will be critical to the translation of your help project,
and if not taken into consideration at the beginning - could present a
huge problem - especially if a client requires that the documentation be
in their native language.
Beyond that, there are a few good books you could ask your company to
buy for you. Here are some ones I found helpful (am sure others will
also have suggestions):
Standards for Online Communication by JoAnn T., PhD Hackos and Dawn M.
Stevens
User and Task Analysis for Interface Design by JoAnn T., PhD Hackos and
Janice C. Redish
Is the Help Helpful? How to Create Online Help That Meets Your Users'
Needs by Jean Hollis Weber and Tamar E. Granor
I hope this is helpful
