Don't worry, after six months of an unsuccessful job search as the Great
American Novelist, their opinion of technical writers will change
quickly (especially if they receive job offers to become one).
<<Rather than churning out the great American novel, and thus fulfilling
their life's purpose, a career in technical writing would lock them into
dry procedural writing, akin to what they find in their VCR manual.>>
Personally, I don't need another Great American Novel (e.g., beginning
novelist creates pseudo-autobiographical work, casting himself as the
hero). I could use better VCR instructions.
