Some of us live for brickbats. We're the tech writer in that lousy movie, and accept whatever attention we can get. And yes, some of us appear to be condescending because we have only two or three minutes to snap off a reply on some subject where we really are the experts. It's very easy to be snide, short and preachy, all at once. Considering the situation, and the amount of actual money we receive for setting ourselves up to be insulted, those brickbats are actually pretty good pay.
