Few will notice a clean window. Many will notice a dirty window but will
refrain from commenting. Everyone will notice and call attention to the
dirty window if it is delivered late.

Same thing with documents. When I tell someone, "I did the best I could
with the time I had. I know you needed it quickly. Here you go." I
usually get a smile of genuine appreciation, especially if I get the
document to the person early. I wait there while the person eyeballs
things, just to make sure they got what they wanted. I never get any
complaints.
