This is considered to be an ad? They are [not] advertising a position,
just
letting list members know that they are looking for work.  And that's
not
appropriate?

Networking is all about filling a need and helping others. If a person
can't
say here that they are open for new position, that's very disappointing.

That was my initial reaction too, but I think it was a kind of indirect,
inadvertent ad. By saying they're looking for work, they're effectively
advertising their availability and soliciting work.
