First off, I never upgrade an OS until it's been shaken out for a while, and
the serious bugs from the release have been fixed (the same goes for
FrameMaker releases, which have been historically buggy upon release). That
said, I was ecstatic to upgrade my home PC from 3.1 to 95 - I had to hand
patch some memory locations in 3.1 every time I booted in order for it to
run some things I had loaded into it (don't remember specifically what or
why anymore, only that I had to do it).
I never used Win 3.1 in a work environment - we were using minicomputers or
mainframes, that were running some version of UNIX, or Apollo OS, IBM System
32 (or DEC VMS).
The first time I had to use Microsoft at work, it was Windows NT.
