TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Long, long, long ago on this list (April 2002), I posted some questions about white papers--what they are, what function they serve, etc.--and I eventually used what I learned as part of a short paper for a graduate course in technical writing. That paper was later expanded for another class assignment, then expanded again, and again, until somehow it became the over-large tome I passed off as my master's thesis.
While I focused largely on the history of white papers over production, I thought the info might be of interest to some on the list. So feel free to download and peruse the material. Enjoy!
