As one who is both a tech writer AND a journalist, I agree with Connie
to a point. In both types of writing, we strive to be accurate, concise,
and clear. In both, we have a responsibility to be objective -- though
technical writing probably taps that responsibility less often. In
neither, is our writing -- nor the work that precedes and follows
getting words into type -- necessarily devoid of expressing our
personalities.

Presumably, journalists would be the same (not including themselves in
what they write) and to a lesser degree, magazine and ad writers. Seems
to me that'd be part of their professionalism, not just part of ours....

Tech writers are a distinct sub-species of writers in that we include
virtually nothing of our selves or our personalities in what we write.
