I don't know if this is part of the problem, but have you tried using the *
wildcard before and after INTERNAL (i.e., *INTERNAL*)?
The Indexing Service is in the list of services available here (on XP):
Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
On my PC, it's not running, and I can search without problems.
