Oh yea - going through the same thing myself. Two solid weeks and I too
was not informed until I tracked down the recruiter at the agency that
placed me and he "swore he thought that he had brought this to my
attention." Yea, right - I think I woulda' remembered that. And overtime
is not an option as it's 40 hrs/week only. Budget time to the max.

Subject: Re: Christmas Surprise--Company Closed for 2 Weeks
I've found that nearly all Federal agencies and contractors close down
for
at least a week during the holidays. In some places, state agencies do
the
same. They do this because they have so many employees taking vacation
around
Christmas and New Years that they couldn't function if they tried to
stay open.
You're right that it was unprofessional of them not to tell you sooner,
but
it is equally your responsibility to manage your holiday expectations.
Mark
this one as a lesson learned and try to enjoy the holidays despite the
further
belt-tightening.
Happy Holidays.

I started a W2 contracting job a few months ago. The agency is out of
state,
but the job is local. At that time, I was given a list of holidays,
etc.
Now, I got a little surprise--I found out the company shuts down for 2
weeks
during Christmas.I'm so frustrated since I only figured (financially)
on 3
days.
I know there's not much I can do about it, but I am pretty upset with
the
agency for waiting so long to tell me and not revealing this upfront.
