Yes, they did think what I was doing was expendable, but then they changed
their minds!  After two weeks, they found out what I was doing was critical
to the business. I went back to work for them as a contractor for two months
so I could train someone else (who did not have the background IMHO to do
this, but that's another story) to take over the policy and procedure
knowledgebase that I built from scratch.

I got a very nice hourly rate too. ;-}

Just goes to show you, sometimes those "powers that be" are not really in
touch with what their employees do, or even what their business needs are.
