TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Maybe it's not time for a career change per se.
Instead, maybe it's time for a title change!
For instance, we have a person here who is a "business systems analyst,"
and I'd estimate that he spends 85% of his time composing technical
documentation.
Granted, he's not writing user guides or help documentation, but if the
umbrella of technical writing includes grant writing (as indicated by a
previous Techwr-L discussion), then SURELY the process flows and data
flows composed by my colleague are considered technical writing as well.

Sounds like it's time for the person who posted that job listing to have
a reality check.
I think it's getting to be time for all of us to have a career change -
farmer. The way this economy is going, I figure we all better start
planting gardens, just in case.
