Since I usually don't have any idea what amount a given company is
paying for benefits, when I give them a salary requirement, I'm
talking about my pay, not pay + benefits.
I consider my salary to be the number that I see on my end of year
paycheck, that I then use when I'm doing my taxes. I'm well aware
that the company may consider my salary to be that number + what they
spend on my insurance and other benefits, but hardly anyone outside of
HR seems to have any idea what that "total compensation" number really
is.
