Leonard Porrello noted: <<You talk about earning more, etc., and that
sounds great. So, I wonder why the rates listed at the top of you web
page are so low: Visual Basic .NET utility programming and Rapid
Application Development (RAD) - $25/hr Enterprise Web Design and
Development - $20/hr Technical Writing - Technical Editing - $20/hr
Why the disconnect?>>
Just a quick clarification: This reply would have been to the original
poster, not to me. I don't do that kind of programming, and although I
do editing and design critiques of Web sites, I don't do Web
programming. But yeah, these rates are way low for a professional. I'd
expect to pay at least twice that for someone who knows what they're
doing, and more for someone who's really good.
I'd venture an explanation or two for the low rates: Is it possible
that all of these areas of work are becoming increasingly competitive,
with a large amount of outsourcing to India, China, and other
countries? Or is the economy so bad that it's a buyer's market for
these services and we have to start lowballing our prices to get any
work?
