The problem with the observation of program functionality convergence is
that it doesn't work well.
The F-111 was an aircraft that was designed to do three separate,
disparate missions. Reconnaissance, air superiority (read that as a
fighter), and tactical bombing. As a result it did none of them well.
There were economies chosen so that all could be done. It was an
expensive failure.
Software that tries to do the same has the same problems. It loses it's
core competency and ends up doing nothing well, or just one thing well,
and sorta does the other missions, kinda ok.
I don't think you really want software like that. I'd rather have
separate software that does a specific task really well, and live with
several applications.
