Check into 3DVIA's composer. Check into 3dvia.com, or http://www.3ds.com/products/3dvia/3dvia-composer/welcome/#vid1. 3DVIA is
a subsidiary of Dassault Systemes and the 3dvia composer product may be
able to give you the functionality you're looking for.
Tech writers can't necessarily draw these fancier 3Ds, but if such a
software exists they could help themselves rather than turning to a
graphic artist.
