Subject: Periods and bullets
Hi, guys...I'm having a discussion with another writer.
My position is that a bullet list of gragments gets no period:
The crate had
- oranges
- apples
- lemons
and her position is that the last bullet gets a period.
The crate had
- oranges
- apples
- lemons.
Any validity to this?
--------------------------
FWIW, we have a firm rule here that we either put periods at the end of every item in a bullets or at the end of none of them. As far as when we use the periods and when we don't, we would definitely not use them in this example because each item is only one word. We would use them if the list is introduced by a partial sentence and each item completes the sentence. The problem is that sometimes, there are some gray area in the middle.
