Um, no, you _aren't_ "constantly having to scroll past them." They
appear at the _bottom_ of each list message, below a row of carets that
marks the end of the poster's message. The message itself is _above_
them.
I assume your eye jumped to them in this instance because Stuart's
message consisted of a single line. (Get a sig, Stuart! ;-) )
And yes, they're HATT ads (which should be pretty clear from reading
them). They help pay for this list, which requires an income source to
exist, isn't government-owned, and has not qualified for bailout funds
or an earmark.
Would you prefer it if Techwr-l charged an annual subscription?
