Make it easy to open and print.  I've worked at three places that used electronic systems to distribute technical documentation.  In every case, what the end users did was open the PDF or whatever, print it, stick it in a three-ring binder, put the binder on a shelf over the desk, and ignore the electronic system from then on. Once they got hardcopy they wouldn't go back to the electronic sources unless a supervisor made them do so because there was new information. And when the supervisors did that, the users just threw out their old versions of the document and repeated the same pattern.

My company is wanting to go paperless - and send all documentation on a
CD with our hardware products. We currently ship a large printed User
Guide. 

 

I've been told to "just throw the .pdf file onto a disc" - but it seems
like there has to be a better way to present the digital document. Does
anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
