TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Whenever someone gives me praise for a job well done, I usually ask them if
I can add their comments to my website. Usually, they are agreeable.
I think the best compliment you can get from a client is when they extend
your contract and give you more work to do.

Subject: Your "Well Done" File
So sorry. No matter how often I set Verizon webmail to Plain Text, it
switches back to, evidently, the formatting of the last post I responded to.
I am slowly training myself to check the setting every time, but I missed it
this last time.
OK, so, my topic was, do you have file in which you store complimentary
notes on reviews? I do; it's at home, since as a contractor I change
employers so frequently. I look at it when I need reassurance that someone
other than fellow tech writers values what I do.
My favorite item in it is a post-it note that came back to me
unintentionally. An editor (yes, this was at a company that had editors) had
passed my document on to another editor and her note said, "Sorry this is
such a rush; the upside is that she's the best of the bunch." In the
context, it was clear that "she" referred to me.
Anyway, I just got a very nice "Brava" from a reviewer.
Do you have a "Well Done" file or something similar? What do you have in it?
Does it improve your morale?
