Yeah, it does.  Actually "portable" OOo is simply regular OOo sitting 
under a wrapper that redirects pathing, drive letter, and registry calls 
(among other things).  When you install it on a thumb drive, you 
essentially install the full suite and a couple of tools to go over top 
of it.  When it comes time to upgrade OOo, download the regular version, 
then installing it the directory x:\PortableApps\OpenOfficePortable\.  
That's all I've ever done.
