TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
All of our new documents and major revisions are planned along with the rest of
the projects they support, are scheduled just like the project's design and
testing tasks, and are tracked along with the rest of the project tasks. At our
regular status meetings, we take note of when a particular document is due to be
started and track its progress as it is written, reviewed and released.
I don't "receive requests" for writing support, except when someone asks me to
give a letter to a customer or govt agency an editing pass or there's a need for
an unplanned revision to fix something minor; those usually come up at one of
our status meetings, with a need to get something done by the next status
meeting, and if the load is sufficiently heavy as to impact other work, the
entire project schedule is updated to reflect it at that time.
We work in an industry where unplanned events are regarded as bad things, so we
make an effort to avoid having any.
