A favorite expression of mine: Offense is always taken, never given.

The corollary: it's good to know who is *trying* to give offense, even
of one refuses to accept it. Just because one is immune to illness
doesn't mean that one should entertain the Typhoid Marys of rudeness.
Immunity can fail, after all.

I have little doubt that there are rude, arrogant people on this list
who choose to email snippy private messages to posters, even though they
are few, far between, and greatly outnumbered by the kind, helpful
people. I may have a received a few of these kinds of emails, myself.
When in doubt, proceed with caution and, if someone continues to make
you unhappy: killfile, killfile, killfile! Would that it were as easy in
life as it is online!

Sincerely,
Madelyn, who would like a portable hole or a trap door to an oubliette
around her all the time. It's probably good she can't have one!
