By the way, since I got some off-list queries about our new workflow,
this is the workflow we use now for the content previously handled in
FM:
AsciiDoc -> DocBook 4.5 XML -> Topleaf -> PDF
Asciidoc - which is open source - is one of the so-called 'minimum
markup text document formats', much more human-readable than XML and
easy to create and maintain in programs like Notepad or Textpad (the
latter being my preference). A great benefit with Asciidoc is that you
can send the content to reviewers or indexers without the need that they
download and install complex software.
>From the DocBook XML we create PDF using a batch formatter from Turnkey
Systems called Topleaf (which does not use the XSL/FO route). Topleaf
lets you easily create and maintain stylesheets using an intuitive
graphical user interface, and also has a strong Perl support for the
things you can't do using the GUI.
