We often use Microsoft applications, its UI guidelines, or style guide as a reference,
especially if there are differing opinions on how something should be done.
For better or worse, most people who use computers are familiar with Microsoft UIs and have
an understanding of expected behavior. If your application behaves like a Microsoft
application, it might not be behaving ideally, but at least there are no surprises. Consistency
is a good thing.
