Although I find this quite challenging since I've never been confronted to
this question. I guess I would find interesting building railroad bridges
too (not so much fond of the battle example: that's my "make love not war"
side ;-).

Wouldn't the person who asked you to do this also like your opinion on
materials and construction plans for building railroad bridges, as well
as your recommendation on tactics for advancing and retreating under
fire in battle?
