In making our documents easier to translate, I am removing text callouts from our figures and putting numbered (or lettered) callouts instead. I intend to put the explanatory text somehow near the figure . . . but I'm not sure what is the best way.
How do you do it? Do you use a list, a table (with rules, with invisible rules), a different font? Do you put it above or below the caption?
