I am trying to find a simple way to refer to the location exactly center
of an area, looking below:

===================== this is the center of the solid area (or plane, or
whatever)

Currently we are using the word 'midpoint' but this is defined as "A
point equidistant from the ends of a line or the extremities of a
figure" - since this is not strictly true, how would you define this?
