TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.

The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm inclined to call that sort of setup task pane and workspace. Choose one of the tabs in the task pane, select a task from the list shown and the options for that task are displayed in the workspace. "Action Items" strikes me as a little too "wordy" (for want of a better term).
