For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.

Subject: Re: A Better Technical Writer/Communicator Library
I recommend reviewing Gerald Alred's "Essential Works on Technical
Communication," published in Technical Communication magazine (November
2003, Volume 50, Number 4). <http://tc.eserver.org/20581.html>
It lists 115 books, divided into eight categories, four of which are
critical to day-to-day work (writing and editing, documentation and
usability, visual and graphic design, and publication and information
management).
Both text that Chris lists below are included in the Writing and Editing
section along with my favourite: Style: Ten lessons in clarity and
grace, by Joseph Williams.
