It sounds like you're trying to create a link to a file (in Acro 9, it's
called "Open a file"). Since the Word doc will become a web page (HTML),
you need to point to a URL (in Acro 9, it's called "Open a web page").
The options/labels may be different in Acro 7 (sorry, I don't recall and
don't have access to it) -- Adobe seems to reshuffle Acrobat menus and
rename commands and options every release or two. :-}
