TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
At least they've used technical writers before. You shouldn't be facing
a total culture shock.
Question: Have you worked as a contract techwriter before?
They will probably have islands of documentation scattered around the
company from each previous contractor. It will probably take a while to
round it up and see if any of it is actually useful.
Good luck!

It is a large company and they have only used outsourced technical writers before and are bringing me on as their first in-house technical writer. I have been the only technical writer before; but this is the first time I will be the first technical writer. I may be on here asking advice from time to time! Thought I would give you all a fair warning. :)
